Lesego Chombo: The Botswana Beauty Who Is Ready to Shine at Miss World 2023

Introduction

Lesego Chombo, a 22-year-old lawyer from Maun, Botswana, won the title of Miss World Botswana 2023. Lesego represented Botswana at the Miss World 2023 competition, which was held in Mumbai, India on 9th March 2024 where she placed overall Top-4.

Early Life of Lesego Chombo

Lesego was born and raised in Shorobe, a small town in the Ngamiland District of Botswana. She grew up in a loving and supportive family, with her parents being her role models and pillars of strength. Lesego describes her childhood as happy and nurturing, surrounded by the warmth of family values.

Lesego attended Shorobe Primary School and Maun Senior Secondary School, where she excelled academically and participated in various extracurricular activities. She developed a passion for reading, writing, and public speaking, as well as a keen interest in law and human rights.

Educational Background

Lesego pursued her dream of becoming a lawyer by enrolling at the University of Botswana, where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2021. She was an active student leader, serving as the president of the Law Society and the vice-president of the Student Representative Council. She also represented the university at several national and international moot court competitions, winning several awards and accolades.

After graduating from the university, Lesego joined Kebabonye Business Law, a reputable law firm in Gaborone, as a legal practitioner. She specializes in corporate and commercial law, as well as litigation and arbitration. She is currently a practicing attorney at the High Court of Botswana, where she handles various cases and disputes.

Miss Botswana Journey

Lesego Chombo decided to enter the Miss Botswana pageant in 2022, as a way of challenging herself and exploring her potential. She beat nine other finalists to win the coveted crown, becoming the 51st Miss Botswana in history. She impressed the judges and the audience with her beauty, intelligence, poise, and talent. She also showcased her self-taught guitar skills, performing a rendition of “Hero” by Mariah Carey.

As Miss Botswana, Lesego has been using her platform to advocate for community development, especially in rural and remote areas. She established the Lesego Chombo Foundation, which runs the Genesis Project, a program that aims to empower and educate children and parents in disadvantaged communities. The project focuses on providing access to technology, arts, and entrepreneurship opportunities, as well as counseling and support services.

She also secured Top-5 position in Head to Head challenge on 23rd February 2024 along with Miss England, Miss Lebanon, Miss Nigeria and Miss Zimbabwe resulting into they entered in official Top-40 of Miss World 2023 competiton. She also qualified in Sports challenge in african region. She also secured her position in Top-23 in Talent competition. She also won Top Model competition. She also placed in Top-10 of Beauty with Purpose project challenge.

How Lesego Chombo is Changing Lives Through Her Foundation

Lesego Chombo is not just a beauty queen, she is also a philanthropist and a visionary. The reigning Miss Botswana 2022 has launched her own foundation, the Lesego Chombo Foundation, to uplift the lives of poverty-stricken and rural communities through innovative and impactful charitable projects.

She is currently preparing to compete in the Miss World 2023 pageant in India, where she hopes to showcase her beauty, intelligence, and purpose.
